After reading Part 1 of The Zero Waste Solution, it made me think about the class discussion and how we as “agents of change” go about in solving our environmental problems, and that there is an issue.
To start off, ever since I can remember when the word “Global Warming” uprising in my world, I remember learning that my grandkids will not be able to live with the beneficial factors that I am currently. This often scared me because adults often told me that we would soon have to park horses in our garages again. Although this sounded very cool to me I did not think getting a pink horse for my sweet 16 would be cool (I wanted a pink convertible for my sweet 16, thank you MTV). I learned soon that this was a myth that did a very good job in scaring me and making me mindful of things I waste. This leads to me proposal; since no matter what, whether it is a landfill or an incinerator global warming is still occurring and the problem because of this due to lack of knowledge. We can act as a group to solve this issue. We are the “agents of change” and as an individual living on this planet it is our job to stop killing it. Like in the video of the dancing man it took one follower who eventually became the leader and then soon everyone joined in fear of being called out. This is exactly what we need to do. In the video the dancing man the educated the first follower and that is what we should do. In our campus project regarding recycling we first must educated people about why recycling is important, why we must do it, how to do it, and how it will not only benefit us, our future kids, but also and importantly the Earth.
Recycling is fun and easy. Everyone is doing it. Currently in State College located in Pennsylvania since the holiday season is finished the the students and workers are recycling their Christmas Trees. This may not seem a lot, but as we know Recycling is helpful and if practice it there is possible chance that it can become efficient. This was something little that the school accomplished, and we can too. If the system does not work, using Connett’s advice we can redesign our system in order for it to work.
In summary, whether one person does it or the whole team it can be impactful in order to make the change that is needed. Thus to start now and make that change possible we must start now and educate people about the problems and let them know that they too can help by doing little things like separating their trash, it may take longer but know that the Earth will also last longer.
