Covanta’s Possibility
In response to the campaign against Covanta, Indianapolis’ new single stream operation, I would like to illiterate my feelings about the situation. Firstly, and mainly, this recycling opportunity is one of no other. The change would bring sustainable ideas which overall reduces our carbon footprint. As we reach a new generation of sustainable thinkers, this opportunity to act out sustainable ways to live will help shape the future and the way people should live respectfully. I don’t understand why anyone would try to hold back a company the rightfully want to shape a sustainable community. As Covanta come to the indy with no request for capital to start the process, it seems like the entire city should jump on the support train and support the movement and get involved. However, a handful of recycling companies are fighting Covanta’s operation. There are wealthy influential people looking to halt the Covanta operation as it would take away from other business...Hello here, why are we recycling in the first place; we want to reduce the community’s footprint. Instead of causing conflict with the movement, they should join the opportunity and tell the community that they are willing to help in anyway. Competitors could possibly work together to educate public; the businesses could work together on this issue and create a larger system that works together. There are so many positive gains throughout the transition into a cleaner and more sustainable city that are attainable with this free opportunity provided by Covanta.
With our trip to Indy’s Covanta coming up, I look answer many of my own questions as we hopefully see the operation in rotation. From our field trip I would suspect that we will be able learn information that will help us with our class project that involves the placement and organization of recycling bins in South Quad.
