We are a living/learning community spending three weeks together studying our waste streams at many levels. We'll track our personal and household production of trash. We'll experiment with composting. We'll learn about the waste challenges of our own campus. We'll get informed about a major waste handling controversy in our local community. We'll study the challenges facing the recycling industry in the U.S. We'll explore the principles of a Zero Waste materials economy.
Students will post regularly about the course readings, films, discussions, and field trips. We're building a collective annotated bibliography to serve as a knowledge base for further research. We're creating a visual narrative of the living/learning community experience. And we're taking on DePauw's trash footprint, participating in the Office of Sustainability Envisioning Zero Waste theme year.
